Capital Trail September 7, 2019
The trail(about 50 miles total, Richmond to Williamsburg) was finished quite a while ago. In fact as our guide to parking and other things we used a spread from the R-TD dated 2015.
It was a beautiful almost fall day and we just decided to go try it. Easier said than done. First we had to figure out how to fill the tires on Connie's bike which has one of those European valves. Then we had to figure out how to use our bike rack. We made almost every possible mistake coming and going with the bike rack, including things like putting the bikes on with the tailgate up and then needing to close it.
By the time we got to the trail, it was nearly lunch so we decided to bike about 5 miles to a place cited in the newspaper called Fork on Five (route 5 parallels the trail). It was closed and looked like it had been closed for quite some time when we reached it.
On the way back we decided to extend the biking a bit and go to Dorey Park (Henrico) to check the farmer's market, but again it closed at 1 pm. It was also getting hot- about 86. When we reached the parking lot at the trailhead to Dorey, we had completed 15 miles which is a big achievement for me, less so for C.
Here we are at the beginning of the ride:
I am looking forward to trying more segments, but I doubt I will become a true distance biker.
