 Libby to Ibby 1922 to 2002

 

Libby's mother, Maryella Jennings (1886-1964) in 1903, age 16:


 

Libby's father, James Blair Shelton (II) (1885-1969) in 1905 or 1906, age 20:

 

Mary Ella and James were second cousins one generation removed. Libby's great grandfather on her mother's side and James' grandfather on his mother's side were brothers (Meredith). In Louisa County back then everyone was related to everyone else somehow, probably.

The family moved to Charlottesville in 1923.

Libby graduates from Lane High School in Charlottesville, Virginia in 1939:

Libby and FDG Jr meet in Richmond before he enters the service in 1943 and then meet again at Thalhimer's or Miller & Rhoads after the war ends in 1945.

They marry in March, 1947:

The newlyweds live in an apartment on Chamberlayne Avenue in Richmond. The neighbors feel sorry for Libby because her husband wears a working man's uniform to work at the paper company. WMG born in February, 1948:

FD Sr rents the Earle Cottage at 55th and Ocean Front for the family to use in the summers from 1955 to 1960.
